China's first amphibious assault ship equipped with UAVs, the "Sichuan", is expected to begin sea trials soon after new photos of the ship were released.
Photos circulating on social media show that the cover of the electromagnetic catapult on the Type 076 has been removed, and radar systems appear to have been installed, fueling speculation that the ship is ready for trial voyages.
These photos were released just before the week-long National Day holiday, following the successful testing of the electromagnetic catapult and landing gear on the Fujian aircraft carrier earlier this month.

The Sichuan ship is regarded as a key asset for the PLA Navy's drone operations due to its electromagnetic catapult system and is often described as the world's first drone carrier.
Amphibious assault ships are likely to play a significant role in any military conflict involving Taiwan, and the Type 076 ship will be able to expand the operational range of PLA strike groups.
Beijing views Taiwan as part of China and has never ruled out the use of force for unification. Most countries, including its main international partner the United States, do not recognize Taiwan as an independent state, but Washington opposes any attempt to seize Taiwan by force and is legally obligated to provide Taiwan with weapons for self-defense.

It marks a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the Type 075 assault ship, featuring a 260-meter (855 feet) long flight deck – larger than the US Navy's America-class amphibious assault ships and Japan's Izumo-class helicopter carriers.
Its size means the Sichuan has more internal hangar space as well as additional space for aircraft takeoffs.
The Sichuan also stands out from other amphibious assault ships due to its electromagnetic catapult and arrestor gear, similar to those on the Fujian aircraft carrier.
It is expected to carry a fleet of drones, including the GJ-11 stealth unmanned combat aircraft (also known as Lijian), which is equipped with electronic warfare systems and precision-guided munitions, and can deploy swarm air-launched decoys.
